The Biggest Loser Update and Review: February 24, 2009 (Part I)

The Biggest Loser episode that aired on February 24, 2009 was sort of interrupted by a speech by the President and the final portion of The Biggest Loser will be on TV tomorrow, February 25th, 2009.  That is the episode that will determine what player is sent home.  Only one hour of the show aired tonight and what happened is reviewed here.  As the show started there was an interview with Helen, from The Pink Team talking to the camera about her doubts that her daughter Shanon went home.  There was alot of talk “on the street” about how selfish Helen was to have let her daughter be sent home.  That selfishness did not show on this episode, at least none we feel needs to be mentioned in this recap of the show.

The teams soon learned that they were all going to be split up and new trainers would be assigned.  How this was all going to work out was through a challenge and then the flip of a coin.  The challenge consisted of starting from the prone position, which really meant lying in the mud, the player had to get up and jump to touch a coin hanging over them.  After touching the coin the players were then required to get back into the mud in the prone position.  The first player to touch The Biggest Loser coin 100 times would win the challenge.  The winner of the challenge would then be allowed to choose the trainer and then that choice would also include the team mate.  The player that came in last place would HAVE to use the other trainer while everyone in the middle would have their fate decided by the flip of The Biggest Losercoin.

The race was a runaway with the only real competitors being Sione and Tara.  It was really close and it all came down to less than just a couple of seconds with Tara muscling it out to claim victory.  The mud that was on the ground made this a very difficult challenge because the water and the mud really wore the contestants down quickly.  The outcome of the entire challenge was The Blue Team being in second place had to flip the coin to decide whether they keep their trainer or have to switch.  The coin flip was not merciful and The Blue Team Sione and Filipe were forced to switch sides to become Black Team players.  Sione and Filipe were really not happy about having to train with Jillian.  They were not being disrespectful to Jillian Michaelsin any way.  They were just very upset that they had to leave Bob Harper.

The Biggest Loser should explore Sensa as a Weight Loss Option

The Yellow Team (Mandi and Aubrey) ended up being on the new Blue Team with Bob Harper while Dane went over to the new Blue Team.  When it came to The Brown Team Ron and Mike had the choice to decide which team they wanted to be training with.  It was shocking to see them decide to split up and Ron went to The Blue Team while Mike went to The Black Team.  They both agreed it would be best if they split up because that would give Mike a better chance at staying on The Biggest Loserranch longer.  The Purple Team (Kristin and Cathy) just ended up together on the Blue Team.

New Blue Team members: Ron, Kristin, Cathy, Aubrey and Mandi.

New Black Team members: Sione, Filipe, Dane, Mike and Helen.

The change of trainers and team mates was not received very well by anyone on either team.  Bob pulled his new team together and started to cry.  This was portrayed as Bob Harper’s cracking and he stated that “it was the hardest thing he ever had to do on The Biggest Loser.”  There was a lot of crying by both Bob and the players over the split.  It was interesting that Jillian Michaels did not get that upset and that all of emotions by Bob Harpershowed, were in direct contrast to his emotions during Bob Harper’smeltdown with Joelle.  It has left some here wondering if this episode of crying by Bob Harper was nothing more than a silent request for redemption with the American public?  Maybe all the heat Bob took made him want to show the world he really is not a raging, raving and cursing person.  Who knows.  Just a thought!

After a commercial break the episode lead right into a series of commercials built into the show.  The opening scene showed a player opening the new Biggest Loser book; 30 Day Jump Start.  The attention then shifted to Jillian Michaelsplugging Ziplocstorage bags and how they will benefit people trying to keep fresh, healthy food fresh.

The next scene was a first in Biggest Loser history.  They players were required to keep two bikes going for 24 hours.  The team that had traveled the greatest distance in 24 hours would win the challenge and that team would gain a 3 pound advantage at the weigh in.  As the 24 hour clock ticked to zero there were scenes showing all of the different players getting on and off the bikes.  There was alot of complaining and griping and at one point The Blue Team called for a truce to just stop.  At the moment when it looked like they were all going to quit, Sione stepped in and said he would not quit.  He said that he wanted to finish it for himself.  He said that he has always given up on losing weight in the past and this was not going to be like that.  Sione rallied everyone to go all the way to finish the 24 hour bike run.

The winner after the 24 hour challenge turned out to be The (new) Black Team with 301.9 miles to The (new) Blue Team having gone 264 miles.  Tara had rode an incredible 58.8 miles, all by herself, to lead her team to the victory.

Then the show just ended and the next thing we saw was something about The President making a speech.  Not that we are not interested in what he had  to say, but that is not why you came here. To learn what has happened in Part II of this episode of The Biggest Loser CLICK HERE for the latest information.
