There were eight teams at The Biggest Loser ranch this week when the show started and at the start Bob Harpergave his team a pep talk by the pool right before they went in to the weigh-in. At the same time Jillian Michaels
was giving her team a similar motivational talk. In one of the cut away, editorial camera shots, Jillian voiced her opinion that she felt sorry for the returning team members. She was afraid for the returning team mates because she felt as if they did not know what they what getting themselves into. The big difference this week was that there was a weigh-in within the first ten minutes of the show. This weigh-in was for only the returning team members. The prize for the winning team was immunity for the winning team.
After 30 days off the ranch the returning players each weighed in and these were the results;
Pink Team (Shannon) 277 pounds to 255 for a total loss of 15 pounds.
Green Team (Laura) 272 pounds to 265 for a total loss of 7 pounds.
Purple Team (Cathy) 281 pounds to 273 for a total loss of 8 pounds.
Yellow Team (Aubrey) 236 pounds to 234 for a total loss of 2 pounds.
Blue Team (Sione) 349 pounds to 324 for a total loss of 25 pounds.
The Blue Team took the win with the 25 pound loss with the total percentage of body fat lost at 7.16%
During this weigh-in Jillian was giving a pep talk to those contestants telling them that The Biggest Loser needs to be compared to the Olympics of Weight Loss. She went on to say that the Ranch kind of warps reality and that the pounds lost there are higher than what a person would normally lose when at home. Jillian went on to say that at home to lose 12 pounds in 6 weeks would be great. During that same little talk to Jillian there were a few more cut away comments where Jillian Michaels said that it is all B.S. to be told that if you only lose a few pounds that is because you gained muscle. She also made the statement that it is impossible to lose weight but not lose any inches on your body.
During a cut away shot of Bob he said that Carla is in this to win it because she was giving it her all. He was afraid that because of her teammate she had to work harder because Joelle was not working hard enough. Bob was afraid that Joelle would be the cause Carla would be sent home. Bob stated that Joelle‘s workouts were inconsistent and that meant that Carla had to work twice as hard to just ensure survival on the ranch. Later on Bob said it had to be 10X harder to survive the vote.
During a shot while in the gym Jillian cornered Aubrey of the yellow team on a treadmill. Jillian confronted her 2 pound loss in 30 days and told her it was all an excuse and that there was no way she had been working out 4-5 hours a day. Jillian stressed that they needed to get to the root cause of the weight issues Aubrey was dealing with internally.
The Challenge
The weekly challenge found all of the teams at a dam. They were not on the top, but down in the water overflow area which was completely dry. The winner of the challenge had the option of taking either a two pound pass or $5,000.
The challenge found a long pipe slightly higher than the waists of the players. There was a rope wound all around the pipe and the only way to unwind the rope that the players were attached to, was to climb up and over and up then under and then up and over and then under again. This had to be repeated dozens of times and was very tiring and a lot harder than it looked. After they had un-wrapped the rope they had to pull the attached rope a set distance to be the first to cross the finish line.
The winner of the challenge was the Yellow Team with the Blue Team not very far behind.
After the challenge there was the usual quick message from Jillian discussing how important it was to get to the root cause of a person being overweight. Jillian feels very strongly that the reason people are obese has little to do with food. Sure the person has to eat to get obese but she likes to get to the reason why people overeat. That is a Jillian Michaels trademark, weekly conversation with the contestants.
The Weigh-In
The teams weighed in as teams and their total weight was what determined who won and who lost. The Yellow Team that won the challenge chose to take the two pound pass and left the $5,000 in the hands of the host, Allison Sweeney.
The results of the weigh-in were as follows;
The Blue Team
Filipe: 331 to 308, lost 3 pounds / Sione: 324 to 316, lost 8 pounds
The Yellow Team
Mandi: 227 to 221, lost 6 pounds / Aubrey: 234 to 224, lost 10 pounds
The Silver Team
Carla: 348 to 339, lost 9 pounds / Joelle: 234 to 234, lost ZERO pounds
After Joelle weighed in the entire process kind of stopped. A cut away scene of Aubrey (Yellow) saying she was shocked with the results because Joelle had not GAINED any weight. Aubrey said that Joelle had not worked hard during the week. She went on to say that Joelle was full of excuses and that she did not know what she was talking about. Bob shouted out that he was not surprised by the zero on the scale. He stated that it was a reflection of her efforts and that the scale never lies.
The Black Team
Blaine: 312 to 303, lost 9 pounds / Dane: 345 to 334, lost 11 pounds
The Green Team
Laura: 265 to 252, lost 13 pounds / Tara: 252 to 240, lost 12 pounds
The Brown Team
Mike 339 to 330, lost 9 pounds / Ron 370 to 366, lost 4 pounds
The Pink Team
Helen: 225 to 216, lost 9 pounds / Shanon: 255 to 246, lost 9 pounds
The Purple Team
Kristin: 312 to 301, lost 11 pounds / Kathy: 273 to 268, lost 5 pounds
The results of the weigh-in were that the Brown and The Silver Team fell below the yellow line and both were up for elimination. During the one hour before the vote for elimination the entire house sort of attacked Joelle and her lack of motivation to work hard to lose weight. All during the heated exchange of words Carla chimed in to verbally assault Joelle and the fact that she did not care about being sent home. Carla was furious about the attitude Joelle showed the world when she hesitated to answer the simple question as to whether or not she really desired to be on The Ranch anymore. Eventually Joelle mounted a feeble defense about working hard and the entire house of players rolled their eyes in contempt for the words she was uttering. The quiet Shanon from The Pink Team blurted out that Joelle did not even know what planet she was on, let alone what ranch.
When Mike and Ron pleaded their request to stay, they both shed tears and clearly stated they worked hard and did not want to go home yet.
The Vote
The vote went quickly tonight with everyone voting to get rid of The Silver Team. The little placards they write the names on all had Joelle in big letters while Carla was written in tiny letters. The players would have liked to send home Joelle and kept Carla.
The person voted off The Biggest Loser February 3, 2009 episode was the Silver Team Carla and Joelle.
Joelle said she was offended by all of the remarks thrown at her and as the players all gathered around Carla to say goodbye, Joelle was ignored and walked out all alone without so much as a word to anyone.
The Biggest Loser Moment
The Biggest Loser Moment was different this week. It started off with words on the screen that Carla and Joelle had not seen each other for months. The meeting quickly turned into hateful comments being hurled back and forth and Carla said that Joelle had not given her best. Joelle said that she was no longer friends with Carla and walked out of the room without another word. The meeting was not a pleasant encounter.
The Biggest Loser Moment went on to say that Joelle lost 31 pounds since she left the ranch and that Carla had lost 40 pounds.
I am a devout fan of the show and felt very strongly that Joelle needs psychological help. Something is wrong there. I won’t, however waste negative energy on her.
Carla is indeed the hero in this situation. Throughout the whole process she handled herself with grace and came out the better person. She stands with pride knowing that you only get back what you put in. Kudos to you Carla, blow them all away at the finale!!!
Overall, I’d also have to give kudos to the rest of the gang so far.
Thanks for the opportunity to share : )
