Metabolism, Exercise, Weight Loss and Boredom

So you trying to lose weight and that last 20 ponds it is starting to be elusive. Maybe you are starting out on your weight loss journey and need to lose 100 pounds. Regardless of your goal you need to do one thing and only this one thing will make it all happen for you. The single most important thing you can do to lose weight is eat less calories in a day than you burn off during the day. With that being said you must take it from the back of your mind and bring it to the front of your conscious thought each and every moment of your day.

If you go into the big burger shop and order a double cheese burger with bacon and all the fixings, even the healthy tomato on top will do you little good. In order to lose 20 or even 100 pounds you need to burn more calories than you eat. It is that simple! No comes the difficult part. The part that slips up most people is the fact that you need to exercise. What is recommended by oodles and oodles of people is that you do cardiovascular exercise at least 30 to 60 minutes a day at least 4 times a week. The problem is that all too many people get into a rut and do the same exercise everyday. Monday they walk the treadmill. Tuesday they walk the treadmill. Wednesday they walk the treadmill. Thursday they walk the treadmill. Friday they are bored and stop exercising.

When you start an exercise routine do not let it get routine. There are actually two reasons for this statement. The first one is obvious, YOU GET BORED! The second (and actually more important reason) is that you need to trick your metabolism. Your body is no dummy, so when the weight loss gets tough you should shake up your exercise routine. What is really meant is that if you do the same cardiovascular exercise every time, your body will adapt and actually start to resist the weight loss.

What you need to do is more like this. Monday walk the treadmill. Tuesday use the elyptical. Wednesday go for a bike ride. Thursday you do something else. What you are doing is that you are messing with your metabolism in a positive way which will help you shed those pounds you are trying to lose.

One important aspect of cardiovascular exercise is that you need to raise your heart rate. I do not suggest you cause yourself a heart attack (go see a doctor before you start any weight loss program) but you need to go through a routine of increasing your heart rate and then allowing it to recover, all while exercising. This stress and recover cycle is very important in not only your health but also in your weight loss.

You really should consider either joining a health club or purchasing a bike or some gym equipment if you decide not to join a health club. In your decision to buy equipment you may opt for some inexpensive equipment or some top of the line equipment. If you decide to buy something you will still need to combine it with a mixture of other exercises. Bikes, Treadmills, Health Club, stair steppers or an elyptical or just plain old walking shoes. A guy or a woman, walking is still great for your health. Whatever you decide to do will require you burn more calories that you eat. It is that simple. If you choose to do nothing, chances are that choice will take a few years off your life, but hey!, it really is your choice. What ever you decide to do I wish you all the best and a long healthy life!

God Bless,

Mr. Keith

Medifast Product Review: Scrambled Eggs

For my review of the Medifast Scrambled Eggs Meal I must say that it was one meal that I ate on the very first day that I was starting Medifast.  When I first tasted them I thought I was going to throw up, as I had to force them down and all the while I had to hold back a gag reflex.  On that first day I thought that I had made a huge mistake by purchasing Medifast because I really did not like the Medifast Scrambled Eggs Meal.

I remember going through the entire day thinking that the reason why so many people were losing weight on Medifast was because they couldn’t eat the food.  Since that first day I must admit that I have learned much about Medifast and the result of that is that I learned what I could have as a Medifast condiment.  Taking that learning curve one step further I must tell you that this morning I was off from work and I really looked forward eating some Medifast scrambled eggs.  What I did differently this time was that I added some Mrs. Dash and some healthier ketchup along with some black pepper.  It did not take much of those seasonings to change the taste of the eggs from downright nasty to great tasting.
Before I go much further I also want you to know that I do not like regular scrambled eggs in the first place and I have to “doctor” them up also.  What I have learned with this Medifast meal is what I have learned from pretty much every meal I eat from them.  I have paid close attention to the seasonings that I can choose from that Medifast recommends. (Click Here To See The List)  What I now have at home and at work is a small collection of what I think some of the meals need to spice them up.  What I now know is that there are many healthy seasonings available in the world today that can make my food very, very tasty, and yet still be healthy.
If you are familiar with egg beaters then you will pretty much know how Medifast Scrambled Eggs taste.  Overall this review is a positive one with not just one thumb up, but with two thumbs up.  After I add the few condiments to my Medifast Scrambled Eggs I love to eat them.   Medifast Scrambled Eggs are a winner if you can eat regular scrambled eggs and enjoy them.  My wife likes plain scrambled eggs and she enjoys the Medifast version just fine.  My guess is that if you like scrambled eggs, you will no doubt like these too.

Dieting With Medifast

Dieting With MedifastDieting with Medifast is not new, as it is one of the oldest weight loss programs available to the general public.  It has been around for well over 30 years, and has had solid clinical studies done by Johns Hopkins that validate the success that is available to anyone.  The program is centered around a meal replacement plan called the 5 and 1 Plan.  This is a very easy plan to follow, as you simply eat 5 Medifast meals, and 1 self-provided Lean and Green Meal.  (Definition of a Medifast Lean and Green) The 5 Medifast meals come from a menu that contains over 70 items, and this menu is always expanding to include new selections.  The plan states that the average weight loss that can be expected will range from 2 to 5 pounds per week, which is better than most other programs on the market. (Diet Comparison Article)  There are specific plans tailored to meet the needs of of many groups ranging from diabetics to vegetarians, to teens to the elderly.  (See all Groups)  For a quick explanation of what Medifast is….here is a link to a very concise and informative article on this website.  (What is Medifast?)

For a thorough review of the Medifast program, we offer the following articles that can also be found on this on this website.

The plan itself is very effective to any healthy person, that applies the program in earnest.  Now that you know the basics of dieting with Medifast, let’s discuss what the whole plan is all about….and what it is really like to use!

I have used the program to lose 115 pounds, and I feel great to once again be thin.  I have not been this weight since I was in high school, and I have been able to maintain this weight for almost 2 years. It is not only easy…it is not even something I consider to be dieting anymore.  I have been able to lose my weight with Medifast, but more importantly I have been able to keep that weight off!

Please do not think I am some weight loss guru, or some athelte that runs marathons.  I will leave that stuff to the people on the ranch, because it is just not me!  I am simply a 50 year young guy, with a 55 year young wife, and because of Medifast, we have regained our health, and we will never let it slip away again.

What Dieting With Medifast Has Taught Me
What I have learned about myself, because of dieting with Medifast, is that I have an issue with portion sizes. (What I learned about portion control and my emotions)  I will be the first to admit that I now understand that I do not NEED to eat massive amounts of food to be content.  The biggest thing I have learned about myself is that when I am in front of food I get hypnotized, and do not stop eating until I overeat.  I will eat, and eat, and then eat some more….until I go to bed and spend time with acid reflux.  I love to eat all sorts of foods and my problem is that when I sit down to eat…I can’t stop!   There even used to be nights that, while sleeping, I would burb acid reflex through my nose, and burn my nasal cavities like heck.  Over-eating and portion control is the problem I had, and I was able to beat that problem with one bowl of Medifast chili.

I remember sitting down to eat my first bowl of Medifast chil and thinking that the reason I will lose weight is because I will starve to death, as the portion size is sooooo small.  What I did not know then, that I do know now, is that it really does not matter how much food I eat because it is the quality that counts, and not the calories.  It was a few minutes after I finished that bowl of chili that I realized that I was full, and I then realized that the only thing I need to do is simply get up and walk away from the table of food.  I finally was able to understand that I needed to worry more about what I was eating, and not how much I was eating.  Dieting with Medifast has been very easy for me to do because after I got through the first 3 days and entered fat burn…it was easy for the next 6 months.  I never got tired of the food, and the fact that I was never hungry (Article Why I Was Never Hungry) really made it easy.

I will admit that when I first started the program it was tough for my budget, but once it became the way I lived my life, I really saved money by not eating out (fast foods) nearly as much.  What I did not understand when I first started was that the cost of Medifast was not in addition to my food bill.  The cost of Medifast became the bilk of my food bill as I was spending so much less money at the grocery store.  (Best Price For Medifast)

Does Medifast Really Work?
The first, and the wrong, question everyone asks is how long long does it take Medifast to work.  I say this because you need to stop thinking like a fat person by putting limits onto what you hope to do with your weight.  You need to stop thinking of Medfiast as a diet, and more like a gateway to a newer and healthier life.  The reason I say this is because if you just use Medifast as a diet, the weight loss will not be permanent.  If weight loss is not permanent…your diet isultimatly a failure.  If you do not change your ways, your weight loss will be temporary and it really just sucks to gain your weight back again!

I have no doubt that Medifast can help ANY healthy person lose significant amounts of weight, but I am also a realist.  I know that there are many people that sign up for the program and try it out with a half-ass attitude and do things incorrectly.  Those are the same ones that start off like gangbusters and then start to “cheat” on Medifast, and after a couple of weeks say the program does not work….”for them.”

The truth of the matter is that the most common problem with Medifast is a lack of understanding how the whole process works.  The weight loss achieved by Medifast is more about receiving proper nutrition, and less about eating fewer calories.  I will not fib to you and tell you that you will eat much more than 1,000 calories a day on Medifast.  I will also not tell you that EVERYONE will lose weight dieting with Medifast.

What I can tell you about dieting, while using the Medifast program, is that the program works and you should expect to lose 2 to 5 poounds, each and every week.  Will you be able to do that?  The most honest answer I can give you is that I really do not have a clue!  I do not know how dedicated you will be.  I do not know how you will allow the drama, that swirls around your life, impact your emotional ability to “stay on plan.”

If you are out here on the Internet looking to see if dieting with Medifast will work, you should realize that is a completly different question from will dieting with Medifast work for you.  Two very distinctly different questions, with two very different answers.

The one thing I can tell you about dieting with Medifast is that;

  • If you are healthy…it works
  • If you follow the plan you will lose 2 to 5 pounds per week

There is NOTHING I can tell you about how YOU will do dieting on Medifast because that is entirely up to you….because only you can decide your future and your fate.

Medifast can only help those…that are willing to help themselves.

Life After Medifast

I was able to lose 112 pounds on Medifast and I did all the right things to make that weight loss a reality.  Now that I am done with Medifast I now realize that I can’t live on Medifast forever and now I am dealing with life after Medifast.  I have no complaints with the Medifast program because the weight loss was something I have never been able to accomplish before in my life.  For about 5 months I buckled down and lost 112 pounds and now that I have achieved the weight loss of my dreams, I have to come to grips with the newer and thinner me.  For what it is worth…I simply need to understand what my life is going to be like now that the Medifast phase is over.  Life after Medifast is my next challenge and for that challenge I have returned to my roots and dusted off my BodyBugg, which is where my weight loss journey started.

Now that I am trying to maintain my weight loss I have to admit that I find more value in using BodyBugg than I did when I used it to lose the first 50 pounds.  What I have learned with my BodyBugg, and Medifast, is that weight loss and weight gain is all about calories in and calories out.  I was able to lose my weight on Medifast because the program provided my body with minimal calories, that were healthy.  What I have been able to learn is that the weight I lost was hard fought.  I spent too many years struggling with my weight before I discovered Medifast and I have no intention of ever going back.  I will never allow myself to get over weight again.  I am determined that life after Medifast is going to be one filled with thinness, no matter what!

Since I quit using Medifast I gained a few pounds, but nothing serious.  I feel as if the bulk of the weight is essentially water weight because of the salt that has been re-introduced into my diet.  I do not salt any food, but the “normal” foods contain much more salt that anything I ever ate during my time using the Medifast 5 & 1 Program.  Even though the few pounds I gained are not serious, those few pounds really scare the heck out of me.  Life after Medifast is more complicated than I had hoped because I now have to think for myself and make food choices, without getting obese again.  Last night I signed onto my BodyBugg account and re-activated my BodyBugg because I feel as if that is the best thing I can do to make life after using Medifast as successful as my time using Medifast.

BodyBugg will do all I need it to do for me.  BodyBugg is the tool of choice because it tells me the vital information I was able to take for granted while on The Medifast Program.  With the BodyBugg app (iPhone) I can keep tab on not only how many calories I am eating, but I can also keep track of the calories that I am burning every moment of every day.  Once again I find myself using BodyBugg as the tool it is designed to be used.  I have no doubt that because of BodyBugg I will be able to maintain my healthy weight and my life after Medifast will not be an issue.

Because of my history with using BodyBugg I know I will be able to monitor not only my calories entering my body, but more importantly I will be able to monitor how many calories are being burned.  I know that because of BodyBugg I will be able to maintain the weight loss I achieved through Medifast.  I know that because of BodyBugg I will not be wandering mindlessly through my days after Medifast and gain all of my weight back again.  I have no doubts that now that I lost my weight I will be able to keep it off for the duration.

I added some links to earlier articles posted on this site with some of the ideas I intend to implement for life after Medifast.

What I know is that it took me years to understand weight loss and now that I have achieved that weight loss I never plan on going back to being over weight again.  I now realize that although it took me years to lose the weight, I really lost all of the weight in less than one year, because it all happened only after I understood the weight loss / weight gain reasons.  Now that I understand what it took to lose the weight I also understand that I will never be fat again… and part of that understanding will involve using my BodyBugg.  I may even upgrade to a brand new BodyBugg, by using the money I was spending on Medifast every month.

Life after Medifast?  I think it will be just fine!

Jillian Michaels, Woman, Fat and Red Wine

Jillian Michaels speaks at an eDiets conference in Fort Lauderdale in 2008.  SHe speaks about how fat is not only introduced into the female diet but

Jillian Michaels
also what it takes to get rid of the fat.  She talks all about how food and exercise interact woth the female body.

It is quite evident that Jillian Michaels is very knowledgeable and confident in that knowledge on how to help a woman lose weight.  There are a few red wine jokes thrown in the mix, but overall the video is very good and full of information about weight loss.
