um, i actually learned about nutrition in one of my classes recently. do NOT follow the food pyramid in certain areas. those "food pyramids" and things like that are regulated by meat and dairy companies. so of course, they naturally bump up the amount of "dairy" and "meat" you really need, so they can make a profit. you do need protein though, but there is alot of ways to get it. if you are choosing to eat meat, chicken is a good choice, and so is fish. too much red meat is a bad thing for anyone. alot of people think that "meat" is the only great and excellent form of protein. but there are things that have even more protein than meat and is less fattening. legumes, such as soy beans, peas, lentils…almost anything (except vanilla and a few others) that comes in a pod when grown like those, have a high source of protein. not to mention, legumes also hold a nice amount of calcium and other minerals and vitamins, like most vegetables. your body takes more energy burning meat and dairy then anything else, so its best to eat less of those things, and eat more vegetables, which will result in more energy. dark green vegetables are the absolute best, including collard greens, which are insanely high in vitamins. for example, a cup of collard greens has 400% of your daily need of vitamin K, 50% of your need of vitamin A, 25% of your daily need of vitamin C, and 25% of your daily need of magnese, among ALOT of other vitamins. its a shame that companies really make you believe that you need to eat tons of meat and dairy. in all honesty, those two areas are not needed alot. you need more veggies. like the portion size of meat you have on your plate, eat like 2-3 times more veggies then the portion of meat. that means you need to eat nuts, legumes, fruits, veggies……theres tons of things to eat!!! and i didnt even get to mention fruit yet, which is also amazing for you!!!! i can emphasize enough about how much you need fruit and veggies
and carbs are perfectly FINE. alot of people say to cut carbs, but that also helps give you energy. carbs are fine to eat, but in moderation, and it also depends of if that involves fiber or not, which is also important in your diet. (veggies also have fiber already too, so do fruits). there is so much to learn about health and diet, it really is a fun thing. my advice would be to start studying the contents of meat, dairy, veggies, fruits, grain…everything. and youll start to see on your own what stuff is most beneficial for you. and if you set your meals right, you will have loads of vitamins, and wont even need to take multi vitamins or anything of that sort. good luck!
also eating 5 to 6 times a day helped me when i lost weight. it keeps your metabolism up. just alot of little meals.
Ask your trainer to help you with your diet.
follow the guidelines of the food pyramid! just cut down on the fat (lean meat, low-fat dairy) & you definitely NEED fruits and vegetables. eating beans and whole grains will keep your system in top shape while loosing weight.
Eat like a king in the morning, a queen in the afternoon, and a peasant at night. Aim for four to six meals a day. Eat the majority of your calories earlier in the day. Avoid sodas and junk foods. Keep your calories at or above 1400 to prevent your body from going into starvation mode.
Your trainer is right.
Cereal for breakfast isn’t good enough. You need a full breakfast. Unless you plan to eat a little snack before lunch.
I usually buy pre-made foods. like leanCuisine or Smartones or Banquet. They have the right serving size and easy to use.
I’m not sure how many calories you should have daily, but I do know the list of good foods to eat because I have just recently started a healthy diet for myself.
for breakfast you want to have some type of fruit. have this when you wake up and wait a while to eat the rest of your breakfast which should be high fiber cereal, whole wheat toast, etc.
For lunch you should have whole wheat bread with low fat meat, lettuce, tomatoes, and LITE mayonnaise or honey mustard.
either that or a well balanced salad.
