How Old Do You Have To Be On Medifast?

We have received many questions from young adults asking if Medifast has age restrictions?  We have been asked how old you have to be to use Medifast?  How young can you be to use Medifast?  Can teenagers use Medifast?  We are here to answer some of the questions that you may be seeking.  We are here to answer the basic question of not only how old you need to be to use Medifast but also we hope to answer the complicated and difficult question of what does it take for a young person to be able to lose weight and whether or not Medifast can work for a minor child.

Parent or Child?
First off we need to determine who is reading this article.  Are you a parent or are you the young adult?  This is critical because if a person does not really want to make weight loss a reality in their life, then it is just not going to happen.  If a parent thinks that they can force weight loss, or Medifast onto the daily reality of a son or a daughter, they will be sadly mistaken.  The “rules” for weight loss apply not only to adults, they also apply to any young person.  Weight Loss, or weight gain, is not based on one decision, but rather it is the cumulative piling up of food choices.  If a child or an adult is not ready to make weight loss a reality, then there is nothing a person could do, short of locking the person up in a cell and forcing a diet on them.  The point we hope to emphasize here is that for a person to choose Medifast to lose weight, they need to be the one making the active decision to use the program.  The choice to use Medifast can only be effective if the person making the choice is the one starting the program.  Parents, as well as the teenager needs to understand this statement and accept it and then live by the reality of the situation they are currently dealing with in their life at this moment in time.  Medifast can work, but not if it is forced.

If the teenager is reading this and is interested in getting their parents to pay for the program, then the teenager needs to understand the dynamic relationship between parent and child.  If the parent has the ability to pay for the program there is really no need to not use, if the son or daughter is trying to make the life changes needed.  In fact, the parent should not only encourage the child, they should be cheering. If the parent is afraid of the cost of Medifast then they shouldn’t fear the cost because it is really not expensive, once the cost breakdown is examined.  In many cases the upfront expense of the Medifast program actually ends up being cheaper than NOT being on the program.  To understand the cost a person needs to realize that the initial cost is almost all the money that will need to be spent, other than for one Lean and Green Meal  per day, which is fairly inexpensive.  One must understand that the initial monthly cost often ends up being less than what is normally spent on food for any given month.  For a complete breakdown of the cost please refer to the link provided below.

Medifast has meal plans that are designed to meet the needs of adolescents between 13 – 18 years old.  These plans are known as Medifast for Teens and are simply portion controlled eating at regular intervals throughout the day.  The Medifast Plan is simple, safe and extremely effective, as long as the user is actively engaged in achieving the results of losing weight.  Medifast can not only help a young person lose weight, it can teach valuable life long lessons as to what it will take to lead a healthy and fulfilling life.  Medifast has been recommended by over 15,000 physicians and has been proven to be safe and effective in multiple clinical studies.  If you are a young adult and you are ready to begin your life at a healthy and enjoyable weight, there is no reason why you can’t use Medifast to make weight loss happen in your life.

If you are a young adult and you think you can make the adjustment to start using Medifast to help you lose weight, the battle for weight loss may already be won.  The reason we say this is because Medifast works… and that is a fact.  It has, and is used by The John’s Hopkins Bariatric Center and that is because it works.  There is no disputing the fact that Medifast not only works, it works very well.  That is one fact that can not be disputed because that just how facts work in the reality of the day.  Medifast works for adults and the fact that you are not over the age of 18 really means little.  The calories a person receives by eating Medifast will not only foster weight loss they will also ensure the proper growth of a young person.  In fact, when a youth engages in subsisting off Medifast they will undoubtedly be eating a healthier and more nutritious way of life than they are eating today.  Not many diets or meal plans would even dare to make that statement.  To carry the statement one step further, a person can live on the Medifast way of life for the rest of their life, as an option to living a healthy life!!!

Medifast is safe to use for any young adult from the age of 13 years or older.  Medifast works and it works well, so if you are a young adult, teenager or any age in between Medifast can work for you.  If Medifast was not safe for young people to use there sure would not be a Medifast Program called “Medifast for Teens.”  We have provided you with a convenient link to show you the official Medifast Booklet that is available from Medifast.

If you are interested in checking into how Medifast can change the life your teenager, or yourself all you need to do is start Medifast because the reality of how effective is cannot be disputed.  Medifast is for real. Medifast works and it does not matter if you are 113, 14 , 15, 16, 17 or 18 years old.  Medifast works as long as the person using it is behind the choice to use it.  Medifast for teens is available to those that are tired of being overweight and ready to make the change needed.  The only question that really needs to be asked is if the person starting Medifast is ready.  Once that choice has been made then the rest sort of just falls into place once they start the program.  Medifast for teens does not only work, it works quite well.

Medifast or Weight Loss Surgery?

I was shocked today when someone I know at work ridiculed me for using Medifast because they thought I should of just had weight loss surgery.  This person even went on to tell me that I am doomed to gain all of my weight back again really quickly!  As I listened to this thin person make fun of of the fact I was on Medifast, it amazed me that I was being made fun of by a person because I chose to use Medifast and NOT have weight loss surgery!

As the day continued it made me think about the fact that for the very first time I have been able to lose weight and now I have some ignorant thin person tell me that I was wrong because I should of had weight loss surgery.  I know about weight loss surgery because I almost had it done as my wife and I even went to a three hour seminar on weight loss surgery options at Sacred Heart Hospital, in Pensacola, Florida.  We went there and listened to the doctors talk about all of the requirements and how the insurance could be obtained to pay for the surgical procedure.  We walked out of the meeting thinking that weight loss surgery could be the answer to our dreams.

When we went home and looked into the ability to use or insurance plan to pay for the weight loss surgery we were not too happy with the answer we received.  We were first told that to quality for the insurance payment we had to gain a few more pounds!  We were dismayed to hear that in order to quality for weight loss surgery, we had to get slightly fatter!  We were still not giving up on the surgery and continued to seek more information and learned much.  The thing that really slowed the whole thing down for us was not so much that getting insurance to pay for the procedure, it was what we would have to live after the operation took place.

When we learned that post surgical care would require monthly vitamin shots and this is when we started to think the whole surgery thing through some more.  As we searched for answers on what to expect with weight loss surgery, we discovered that for the surgery to be effective for a lifetime that we had to give up many things we enjoyed.  We learned that we would never be able to enjoy hot fresh bread fresh from the oven with butter drizzled on top.  I did not want to swear off bread forever and this is when I started to look into Medifast.  Sure I do not eat bread right now while on Medifast, but that means nothing in the totality of the rest of my life.

I love to drink soda and with weight loss surgery I could NEVER enjoy a guilt free pop again!  As I looked even more into weight loss surgery options I started to see some serious reasons why I did not think I would be a happy weight loss surgical patient.  I started to lean more and more way from surgery and more and more towards learning about Medifast as the best option available for me today.

Start losing weight now!

I further learned that if I had weight loss surgery I would never be able to drink out of a straw again!  WOW!  A simple thing like drinking from a straw is a no-no for someone that has had bariatric surgery!  This may seem like a little thing in the total scheme of life, but once I realized that straws would be taboo I started to want to learn even more about the ramifications of the surgical option.  Soon I also discovered that many people become alcoholics because of the way booze gets dumped right into the bloodstream.  I do not drink much, but I do not want to ever not be able to drink at a wedding or a night out.

As time went on I started to get turned off about the end results of weight loss surgery.  I saw all of the people I know that had the operation only to lose a ton of weight, and then gain it all back again.  I can think of three people that I know at work that had the procedure done and in less than four years they not only lost the weight, but also gained much of it back again.

As I stood there listening to this ignorant co-worker I smiled inside knowing the fact that my choice to use Medifast was the best decision I could have made for myself.  I have lost almost 30 pounds in as many days and yes…maybe I can gain it all back again… but that is not what I am worried about at this moment.  The reason I do not worry about gaining the weight back is because I have learned to deal with the issue of obesity all by myself.  I have realized in just 30 days that in order for a person to be truly able to lose weight, and keep it off, they have to deal with the fact of what made them overweight in the first place.

Medifast has taught me that my food issue is with my inability to control my portion sizes combined with my snacking at night, while watching television.  Since I have been able to lose the weight I intend to keep dealing with those issues because I never intend to let those lost pounds creep back into my life.

As I walked away from my snickering co-worker I felt very confident in my choice of Medifast over weight loss surgery.  I say this because I know that no matter how I lose the weight, I will always be able to gain it all back again.  I know that whether I had bariatric surgery, lap band surgery or any other weight loss surgery that the chance to gain the weight is always right there in front of my emotional being.  I know now that even if the insurance company would have footed the bill, I would still run the risk of gaining all my weight back again.  Can I still gain it back with Medifast??? Sure I can, but the big difference is that if I do can it back again it will be from eating bread, drinking out of straws and drinking Pepsi, which is a big no-no for a weight loss surgical patient.

As I sit here almost 30 pounds lighter from Medifast I know that for me Medifast was the better choice  when compared to surgery.  If you are contemplating surgery I implore you to think twice and at least look at Medifast as a much safer alternative.  I say this because it has worked so well for my wife and I.  I also say this because it is soooo much less expensive than going into the hospital and having a surgeon cut you open and remove portions of your body, never to be able to be replaced.  I say this because the decision to have bariatric surgery is one that if you make it, it can NEVER be reversed.  Medifast works and works well and you really need to check it out before you commit to another life of after weight loss surgery care.

Good Luck, and God Bless

Medifast iPhone App & Medifast Blackberry App

The purpose of this article on a Medifast iPhone app and a Medifast Blackberry app is to sadly say that there is really no such thing in existence today.  It is interesting to note that an organization as efficient and successful as Medifast has not taken the time to develop an app for the people that are living the Medifast way of life.

A Medifast app for the iPhone would be nice to have so we really do not know why there is not some sort of FREE app that can be downloaded.  I have an iPhone and I have searched the web and each time I come up with nothing.  The frustrating part of it all is that all of the sites that I visited proclaimed they had an app for either the iPhone or the Blackberry and then when you click onto their site, you get a screenful of junk that you were not looking for at all.

This article was written to help clean up some of the clutter on the web concerning Medifast and to make your life easier by telling you that at the time this article was written there was no such thing as an app for either the Blackberry or the iPhone.  So, if you were looking for one….sorry, but there isn’t any.

I hope I saved you some time and since you are here and there is no app…. have a great day and thanks for checking in!

P.S. Why doesn’t medifast have an app for the iPhone or the Blackberry?  Hhmmmm?

What To Expect When Starting Medifast

If you are wondering what to expect when starting Medifast let me be the first to tell you all of the joys and all of the heartaches that you can expect.  First off we need to sort of discuss your personal situation and since I do not know you, that makes it somewhat difficult to be accurate.  The point I am trying to make is that the situation for everyone that starts Medifast will be different.  Some people will be single and live alone while others may be married and yet still doing it all by them self.  You need to consider the dynamics of the situation that is relevant only to your life at this moment in time.  Below I have listed what I have learned about what to expect when starting Medifast.

Married and doing Medifast together is the situation that I live in at this very moment in time.  My wife and I were both overweight and we tried many weight loss ideas before coming upon Medifast.  The dynamic that we have is that we live alone and all of our children are grown up, which makes living the Medifast life fairly easy and very convenient.  When we are at home together we simply wander into the kitchen and spend the five minutes or so getting one of our meals ready to eat.  Since we are both on Medifast it is very easy to stay on plan, even when we go out to eat.  What we have learned is that we are really saving quite alot of money on groceries and eating out.  Overall the plan is very easy to follow and in the long run it is proving to be more cost effective than eating like we used to eat.

I see that there could be difficulties in a relationship if only one partner were to be doing the plan because with Medifast you are either on the plan or you are not on the plan.  If your spouse or partner were to NOT be doing Medifast at the same time I can see it causing stress in the relationship.  Eating out would be more difficult and the schedule of meals at home would be dramatically altered since a Medifast user eat six times a day.  Also it might be difficult for one lone individual to resist the daily temptations in life that end up in a home that has little to no concern for preventing obesity and eating nutritiously.

What anyone can expect from starting Medifast is to lose weight and for it to happen fairly quickly.  The first two weeks will be the fastest and then your body will settle into a slower pace.  I lost about 18 pounds in the first two weeks, while my wife lost about 8.  Currently I lose about 3/4 of a pound each and everyday.  I know this is accurate because of the validation my BodyBugg provides for me.  The math of the calories is quite simple.  I eat about 900 calories a day and I burn about 3,500.  If you do the math it works out, on the scale, that I am losing 3/4 of a pound daily.

One thing that I never expected to believe is that I can go each and everyday of my life eating less than 1,000 calories and yet still never be hungry.  For the first few days on the plan I thought the portion sizes were tiny and I would be hungry all of the time.  I soon found out that I was not going to starve and today I never get hungry at all.  I eat my six meals daily like clockwork and I no longer rummage through the kitchen looking for snacks to eat.  The interesting thing that befuddles me is that I am eating less and I am much more satisfied with the food I eat.

One thing I do know is that if I am out and I smell a cheeseburger or a slice of pizza…I long to have some.  I love the foods that made me fat but the difference now is that this is the time I have chosen to become thin.  I have set aside this time for the sole purpose to lower my weight, my cholesterol and end the family tradition of contracting type II diabetes.  Despite the longing I have for what my nose sometimes smells, I am centered in the desire to make this weight loss attempt the one that succeeds.  I am not saying that I will never have a burger or pizza again, I am just saying that I have lost 67 pounds along the way and I never want to return to the old me.

Another thing my wife and I have learned is that we shop for our clothing in thrift stores.  Since I have lost 10 inches from my waist I have needed new clothing.  I do not have the money to revamp my wardrobe and I now sort of  just rent the clothing I need.  I use the word rent because I know that in just a few weeks I will be donating them back as I search for an even smaller size. We have also been getting rid of all our old clothing entirely so it will not be easy to just start gaining weight again when this Medifast ride chops off all 97 pounds that need to go away.

Trying to be specific in my explaining what to expect when starting Medifast, I want you to know that the most important thing you will need to make this Medifast journey a success is determination and motivation for the long haul.  If you are currently trying to improve your life by losing weight then do not let anybody tell you different.  If there is a loved one telling you not to do it I would question their love or at least their motivation for saying so.  If you are over weight and and the person in your relationship is not encouraging and helping you there is a deeper issue than weight loss.  Anyone that loves you…I mean really loves and cherishes you will be there for you as you attempt to become healthier.  If someone is trying to stop you and they themselves are overweight they may try to discourage you simply because they are not ready to make the change them self.  If you are ready to make the change then go for it and don’t wait for someone that may die while they are getting ready to start.

The most important thing a person can expect when starting Medifast is that there will be changes and adjustments that you will experience.  You may get constipated but that too will pass. (Pun intended)  When you start Medifast you will think you will starve and yes, you may be tired for 2 or 3 days, but that is simply your body adjusting to the fact that you are not living on empty carbs and harmful fat.  What you can expect is that after just a few days you will feel great and ready to go.  If you follow the plan you can expect to see a thinner and happier person staring back at you in the mirror.

The single most important thing you can expect when starting Medifast is that you will lose weight.

Medifast and Bowel Movements

When we started to review Medifast we knew that we would get right into as many aspects of the Medifast Meal Plan as possible.  One thingwe did not even think about at the outset of this extensive personal review was the correlation of Medifast and bowel movements.  Looking back on the start of Medifast just a few short weeks ago it is hard to believe that the thought of how Medifast would change overall bowel movements in such a drastic way.  Many would shy away from this type of essay but we choose to discuss it because how food exits the body is about as important as how it enters.

First off you need to realize I, nor my wife are doctors and the material you are reading here is just from personal experience and nothing more.  The descriptions below may be more than some may want to read, but for others the information of how our ”poop” has been affected by Medifast will be very important.  If you can get distressed from reading about going to the bathroom, it is suggested you just skip this article.

The issue my wife has had with Medifast was the fact that for the first few days she was constipated.  For a day or two she had some minor cramps and pains and repeatedly said that she felt the urge to go to the bathroom, but could not complete the act.  Other things that were noticeable right from the start of using Medifast was the amount of stools being relieved from the body.  Also, another placid fact about it all is that the stools no longer really spent too much time floating in the toilet.  We believe that this is because the fat content of our new eating plan had been reduced greatly.  Without all of the fat in the diet, the poop, or the stools just sink right to the bottom.

One other observation is that the amount of stool output has been greatly reduced.  No longer are there any large bowel movements and this is simply because the amount of food consumed has been greatly reduced.  Since the quantity of food entering your body has been sharply reduced it only makes sense that the amount of food exiting your body is also reduced.  No longer are the trips to the restroom going to fill up the toilet.  You will need to get use to seeing just a few small stools unceremoniously sinking to a small pile in the toilet.

The opposite has been true for me as I have not suffered from constipation at all.  The reality is true because I have endured a few rounds of diarrhea but I attribute that to drinking too much water at meal time.  I know it is the water because I drink flavored water and the color of the bowel movement is the same color as the drink.  The diarrhea has not been that often, but it has occurred a few times.

The one thing that has been common with both of us is that we have learned to just not pass gas when there is an urge for a bowel movement.  The reason for this is because often there is something other than gas waiting to come out and that should be avoided at all costs.  Also it has been discovered that sometimes when a bowel movement does occur there is liquid waiting right behind the stool waiting its turn in line.  The key word is to have sort of a cautious approach to bowel movements when you start Medifast.

Another thing that really needs to be stressed is that if you are serious about losing weight then you need to be aware that you are about to change your eating habits tremendously.  What you will soon discover is that when using Medifast your body will need time to adjust.   All of the issues discussed above were not painful or an inconvenience in any way, shape or form.  We have no embarrassing stories to share because there really are none to be told.  If you ever dealt with a popular weight loss pill called ALLI you may have had a story or two of your own to tell, and that is not the issue with Medifast.

Overall the big thing about how Medifast has affected our bowel movements was the fact that they were smaller, did not float and smelled really, really bad for the first three or so days of being able to have a bowel movement.  We feel this is because the new meal plan allows your system to sort of detoxify itself.  I used to have a bowel movement after each and every meal.  My wife used to make fun of me because I was so regular, but now the trip to the toilet, for a bowel movement, has been changed to once a day, which is after the Lean and Green Meal.

If you are starting Medifast soon there is really nothing to get in advance to help with bowel movements.  If you are reading this because you are on Medifast we will take some information from a Medifast web-page and show you what we have learned.  Below we have listed some of the top tips to help a person not have any problems with bowel movements while on Medifast.

  • Drink at least 64 ounces of water everyday and try to spread out the consumption throughout the course of the day.
  • Avoid alcohol and limit caffeine intake to <300 mg/day.
  • When you choose your vegetables for the Lean and Green Meal choose from the high fiber vegetables available.  Spinach. Broccoli. Greens. Okra. Cauliflower.
  • Slowly increase your exercise time to at least 20 minutes a day.
  • Set aside some peaceful time for the bathroom, where you will be undisturbed.
  • Do not ignore the urge to use the bathroom. Never be too busy to go when the need arises. If you have to go, do not put it off.
  • Add some whole or ground flax-seed to your meals. (1 teaspoon counts as 1 condiment option on the Medifast 5 & 1 Plan), fiber capsules, sugar-free Metamucil®, or Benefiber®. Be sure to increase your fluids when adding these items.

In closing we want you to know that bowel movements and Medifast really should be discusses because of how closely related the subject really can be.  As far as we are concerned there is nothing to fear with how Medifast will impact on your bowel movements.  We had no issues other than mild constipation and mild diarrhea, which passed within the first few days of using Medifast.  We also want to tell you that the impact Medifast has been on our life has been tremendous.  The weight keeps falling off and it is the easiest thing we have ever done in our long history of weight loss.

No longer do we look in the mirror and see fat people. We now see people looking back at us that we have not seen for many years, and that feels really good.  Medifast and bowel movements are really nothing to worry about…but if they are for you, we have one final bit of advice.

Medifast users may use stool softeners, laxatives, or rectal suppositories with caution; the bowels may become dependent on these over time.  You may need to visit a doctor if  bowel movements do not occur after the use of these products.

Does Medifast Really Work?

The entire purpose of this article has been decided to explain the age old question of does Medifast really work?  To answer this question should really be quite easy if it were to be simply based on the math of the calories eaten.  What we mean by this is that if you were to use Medifast and stick to the program you would normally be eating less than 1,000 calories a day.  In the course of existence the average person will burn more calories than is eaten when participating in the Medifast Weight Loss Plan.  If you had to just base an answer on the numbers, you would not even have to ask if Medifast really worked because the math would clearly state you burned more calories than you ate…hence weight loss.  Sure it is easy to answer that question in the abstract, but if you were asking if Medifast would really work for you, then the answer is a big fat “We do not know.”

The reason we say we do not know if Medifast really would work for you is because we would require you to answer a few more questions.  To touch on a few of those questions we would have to ask the following:

  • Are you really commited to losing weight using Medifast?

Are you ready to jump into an entire new way of looking at food?  Are you ready to look at a correct and healthy portion size of Medifast food and realize that the small portion really is not small, it is what should be normal.  Are you going to be able to commit to using Medifast and not making “secret” runs thru a drive thru?  Are you going to be able to pass up all of the temptations that will pass by your nose in the months to come?  If you can’t pass up the temptations, then Medifast will not work for you.

  • Do you understand the cost involved with Medifast?

When most people ask if Medifast really does work it means they are new to the Medifast concept and are exploring what it has to offer.  This is also when the average information seeker looks at the cost of Medifast and thinks it is rather expensive.  Before you say it will not work for you because it is too expensive, we want you to to refer back to the last point mentioned above.  You need to look at food in a new light.  Let’s say you spend $300.00 for your food per month with Medifast.  Do you realize that the cost is really not that expensive?  If you average that cost out it is about $10.00 a day to eat Medifast.  Since there really is not much more food to buy, it may even have you spending less on food per month than you are currently spending on non-Medifast meal planning.  Sure you will still have to buy the stuff for one Lean and Green Meal everyday, but the truth is that the cost is fairly decent overall and many people end up spending less money on the Medifast Plan.  So if you want to know if Medifast really works are you ready to understand how the cost will or will not matter to your finances?  Will you be able to continue with Medifast as long as is needed?  Will lack of budgeting cause you to have to stop using Medifast? The question you need to ask is not if Medifast really does work, but can you afford to do Medifast in the first place?  If you can afford Medifast, then we refer back to the caloric deficit you will achieve if you follow the plan and that deficit is what causes weight loss.

  • Scientific Proof Means Nothing

We will be the first to say that we are tired of seeing all of the weight loss miracles and wonder drugs that proclaim that they help you to lose weight.  For every diet pill and for every weight loss program there is always those before and after photographs.  You always see them and you see how thin a person you never met now looks that they lost weight.  What we hope to make you understand is that it really does not matter how many people have lost weight using Medifast.  What we hope you understand is that Medifast is nothing more than a tool, it is a weight loss tool.  If you start the program thinking it will work because of all of the scientific proof, you should realize that reason may not be good enough for youto be a success.  Despite the claim that 25,000 doctors recommend Medifast means nothing if you, the individual can make it work in your life.

The final answer to whether or not Medifast really does work must be simply thrown back into your court.  You should not be asking if Medifast works, because it does based simply on the math and the calculation of calories being eaten and the calories being burned.  The real question you need to be asking is whether or not Medifast is something you will be able to fit into your life.  Medifast is really a no brain-er and it simplifies weight loss down to a level that almost anyone will have the potential to drop many pounds.  The real question you need to ask if if you have the ability to STICK with Medifast long enough for it to work its magic?  The real question that you should be asking is if YOU are ready for what Medifast has to offer?

If you order Medifast and stick with the guidelines of the mealplan you should see a major change in your body the very first week and month.  If you see the changes will you be able to continue?  Will you be able stay the course?  If you start Medifast and ignore the rules chances are Medifast will be a failure.  When you begin Medifast and follow the rules, you should lose weight.  You should lose more weight in the first two weeks than you have lost in the last 3 months.

So stop asking if Medifast works and start asking if you think you are strong enough to let Medifast into your life and then let it do what it needs to do.  If you are ready then Medifast will be ready.  In closing we really just want to answer your question as t0 whether or not Medifast really does work.  We can answer that with a one word answer.

YES, but only if you are ready.

How Does Medifast Taste?

Answering a question as large as How does Medifast taste requires an understanding of what is really being asked.  There are many variables that go into any food product and to lay down a blanket statement for the catalog of Medifast foods would not give the product line the justice it deserves.  If you ask how does Medifast taste you must realize what is really being questioned.

When I started thinking about Medifast I was more concerned with things like cost and portion size than I was with the general question of taste.  I expected that I was not going to like some of the selections while really enjoying others.  It is odd to me that now that I am using Medifast that many of my friends question me as to whether or not I enjoy the food.

Now that I have eaten many of the selections available I have the ability to answer the question of how the food tastes, but before I do I want to add one more word to the question.  The question that most are really asking is “How does the food taste” with the word overall being added at the end.

I have read many stories that have said you should not expect much from the taste and that you should not get your hopes up too high, but I really must disagree.  I can say that overall the flavor is not that bad.  I really enjoy the shakes and the soups. Since I have never really been an oatmeal fan I do not favor those meals all that much.  I will say that I have not had one meal yet that I do not like.  I have not had one meal yet that I would not willingly choose to eat another time.

My answer to the question of “How does the food taste?” is that overall the food is pretty good.  I enjoy some more than others and I have no regrets for anything I have eaten.  Sure there was a learning curve as I started to add condiments, but as I look at the selection on my counter I am content with all that I have received.

In closing I must say that I never was really all that worried about how it would taste.  I was more worried about portion size and going hungry.  I must tell you that neither of those issues have surfaced yet for me and I am happy with the program so far.

If you are questioning how does Medifast taste I would not worry about it too much.  I do not know of anyone that hates it and if you do dislike an item you can send it back and exchange it for another. Either way I do not think that the taste of the food will be that much of an issue.

If you are worried about the taste….don’t.  The amount of weight you can lose will be more than worth the risk.

How Does Medifast Food Taste?

When I first was thinking about using Medifast I was really worried about how their food would taste.  I have always been a picky eater and I was afraid to start Medifast because I thought I would just hate the taste.  I remember the very first meal I ate and when I tasted it I thought I was going to gag because I thought the flavor and the texture were horrible.  That very first morning I thought had started a meal plan where the flavors were going to literally kill me.  I could not believe that right from the start I answered the question of “How does Medifast taste?”  I thought that I had made a costly mistake.

Despite my initial introduction to the flavor of Medifast I soon began to understand the role of condiments to help spice up the flavor.  I quickly learned that one packet of Splenda to ANY of the shakes made them go from tasting terrible to tasting wonderful.  I soon realized that the meal could quickly be changed from something that I despised to something that I really enjoyed.  I soon learned that I could make the taste of Medifast food great.

Other things I discovered about how Medifast food taste is by how I prepare them.  I let the soups soak for at least 5 hours and they taste not only great, they taste super-great.  I now add Mrs. Dashto many items and I realize just how far I have come with being able to enjoy the way their food tastes.   I have gone through almost each and every Mediafst Meal in the Variety Pack and I can confidently tell you how the food tastes and that answer for me is that I really enjoy the flavor in each and every meal I have had.

Sure I have my favorites and some are better than others, but overall I think the taste of Medifast food is better than I had hoped.  I am not only happy with the flavor of the meals and snacks, I am content with the texture, which has always been a big issue in my life.  In closing I just want to state that although many describe how Medifast food appeals to them, it will be different for everyone.  My wife, who is also on Medifast, feels the same way that I feel.  She enjoys each meal while liking some, more than others.  Overall, she too likes the way Medifast food tastes and next month we are going to order a few different meals as we continue to lose weight with Medifast.  Maybe next month we will come across a Medifast food we do not like, but for now we both agree with how good Medifast food tastes overall!

Should I Exercise While On Medifast?

There can be a big misunderstanding for people that are looking into starting Medifast when the question is asked whether or not The Medifast Meal Plan recommends exercise.  We hope to dispel any misinformation about the plan as we have seen some mis-informed videos where over zealous users of Medifast have provided inaccurate information concerning Medifast and Exercise.

The answer as to whether or not a person should exercise while on Medifast is not a simple “yes” or “no” because before the question is answered the user of Medifast needs to qualify the question.  What is meant by this is that for an accurate and correct answer to whether or not a person should exercise while using Medifast each person will need to ask a better question.  So…before we just tell you whether or not you need to exercise lets look at your situation.

  • Have you already started Medifast?
  • Are you already exercising?
  • How often do you exercise?
  • How long do your exercise sessions last?

These are all questions that YOU, the user of Medifast need to answer before we can tell you if the Medifast Program recommends whether or not you should be exercising while using The Medifast Program.  So let’s take a look at some specific questions and answers about Medifast and exercise.

If You Are Just Starting Medifast:
If you are just starting Medifast the first question that needs to be addressed is whether or not you are currently exercising as part of your daily life.  If you are just starting Medifast and you ARE NOT engaged in some form of a daily exercise program, then you should not start an exercise program for the first two to three weeks of beginning Medifast.  After the first two to three weeks you need to take it slowly and only exercise for ten or fifteen minutes a day.  You should try to increase the intensity and time of your chosen activity as the days and weeks and months occur.  You should look for an activity that you enjoy because the end result is that your weight loss basically all comes down to calories in and calories burned.  If you are on the 5 & 1 Meal Plan then you should also limit the exercise to a maximum of 45 minutes daily.  The reason for this is because you do not want to burn more calories than you are taking in, while on the meal plan.

If You Are Already Using Medifast:
If you are already using Medifast then you should have cut your exercise duration in half when you started.  This should be done by decreasing the intensity, time or frequency of the exercise sessions.  The reason for this is because you need to give your body the time it will need to adjust in not only because it is receiving less calories a day, but also because of the type of calories it is receiving.

So, as you can see the answer to whether or not you should exercise while using Medifast is not a simple “yes” or ”no” because the answer to the question is “yes” or “no”, depending on your personal situation.  Do not think for one moment that Medifast does not advocate the fact that a person should be exercising.  The question of whether or not a person needs to be exercising while using Medifast really should be “when” should a person start to exercise while on Medifast.

Do not take our word for it because we have created a link to the actual Medifast page that explains all of this in great detail.  To read all of the information needed to answer your Medifast and exercise questions follow the directions below:

  • Go to the Medifast Official Site using the link provided
*Then click on the FAQs link at the top right of the page.(Orange tab with white letters)
*Then scroll down to the 9th topic (NOT the 9th line, the 9th TOPIC) which is “EXERCISE“  Here you will be presented with two hyper links.
  • AFTER you go to the page you clicked on many of your questions will be answered, but the available answers goes even deeper by clicking on the Medifast link at the bottom of the paragraph; Should I exercise along with the program?  When you see that paragraph there is another link at the end of that paragraph which is Medifast Exercise Guide.  That is where all of your Medifast and exercise questions can be answered.

You will be able to print that up, but if you were to order Medifast Meal Program the booklet can be shipped at no additional charge to you, as long as you request it.  If you decide to order Medifast and want the guide shipped (for FREE) with your order then make sure you click on “accessories & guides” in the left column of the main page on the Medifast Official Site.

We hope we helped you with the question of whether or not you should exercise using Medifast because it is very easy to understand once it is explained.  Medifast and exercise really do go well together, it just is a matter of WHEN a healthy person using Medifast should start to incorporate exercise into their daily life.
