Book Review: The Emotional First + Aid Kit: A Practical Guide to Life After Bariatric Surgery

I am a former morbidly obese person and I came really close to having weight loss surgery.  I went to a free bariatric 3 hour meeting to discuss the issue of weight loss surgery and what to expect.  I walked out of that meeting thinking that weight loss surgery was the way I was going to lose the weight.  Looking back on it all I have to say it has alot to do with a book called The Emotional First Aid Kit, by Cynthia L. Alexander.

I never did have weight loss surgery and looking back on it all I must say that I am glad that I did not have the surgery, despite the disappointment I felt at the time. (Insurance issue)  Since that day of surgical denial, I was introduced to Medifast and that has changed my life.  I have lost well over 110 pounds and I can even tell you when I had Medifast Aha! Moment.  I was looking through the book called The Emotional First Aid Kit and realized that if I tried Medifast and applied it in the same perspective as weight loss surgery in the book, I would lose weight!  I realized, and understood that if I just used Medifast and skipped the surgery thing….I could lose weight almost as rapidly, and a whole bunch safer!  That may sound like a stretch, but if you did all of the emotional sorting out stuff BEFORE the surgery, as described in the book…you wouldn’t need the surgery.

Looking through the book I understand that whether or not a person has had surgery, they still will eventually have to deal with the issues of having had the surgery.  Even those that have had the surgery will soon learn that they will still have emotional issues to deal with, long after the bariatric surgery.  My take on the book was that if I just followed the Medifast Diet, you could achieve the same results while keeping my stomach where I like it.

Here is the really cool part though….if you have had weight loss surgery Medifast makes great meals for a you to eat.  Not only are the meals the proper portion size, they are also more nutritious than what you will otherwise eat.  The truth is that if you had bariatric surgery, Medifast makes the perfect contribution to how you should eat.  Medifast is great for people that have had weight loss surgery as the meals are the correct balance of protein and nutrition needed on a daily basis for a person that has weight loss surgery.  If you doubt us, ask your doctor.

Information on Medifast and Weight Loss Surgery:  Medifast Official Site
If you are thinking of having weight loss surgery please check out Medifast and skip the surgery.  At least check out the table of contents of the book on Amazon.com and see that the issues you will be dealing with really can be dealt with and refraining from the surgery.  If you can’t consider a $290.00 a month program for 30 days to stop yourself from weight loss surgery, I feel sorry for you.  Medifast works!  I wish I could grab you by the ears and look you square in the eyes and scream at you only like a dear friend could get away with doing.

As far as the book called The Emotional First Aid Kit goes, it really lost me from the moment my knowledge of Medifast surfaced.  I now find it amusing to think that I use to think surgery was the answer but Medifast helped me figure it out.  God does work in mysterious ways!  I suggest you check out the table of contents and think about dealing with those issues now.  If you can deal with those issues then Medifast will be a breeze.  If you deal with the issues in the book before the surgery you can skip the surgery….now how cool is that?

Bob Harper Book Review: Are You Ready!

There is a new book out by Bob Harper, who hails from The Biggest Loser, that is really good and if you desire to lose some weight, for life, then this is a good book to have in your weight loss library.  When I reviewed the book I was blown away from the very start where Bob writes about how he made it into the gym for the very first time in his life.  I was glued to the story about how the passing of his mother brought his weight loss and health training passion full circle in his life.

Being a huge fan of Jillian Michaels I am always looking for some insight into the tiny facts of Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels.  I am not a stalker or anything like that but I just like to know more about what makes them so successful in helping others be able to lose massive amounts of body weight.  Bob has become an inspiration for weight loss and whether he likes it or not he has been cast into the role that will be forever his and no Hollywood set will ever be able to change that.  Bob Harper has become a weight loss and fitness legend and the new book out “Are You Ready!”has hit the shelves ready to rock.

The forward of the book is a part I normally skip over but I read this one and I am glad that I did because it offered much insight into what makes Bob Harper tick.  The forward of the book provides the reader what really is the philosophy of how he goes about helping people start and complete their personal weight loss journey.  One interesting aspect of the book is that the title of the book is a question, yet there is no question mark on the page.  I think what this means is that it really is not a question that is being asked at all.  Bob Harper knows and has made the assumption that you are ready to lose weight and he is ready to help you.  I think what this means is a significant peek into the mindset of Bob because he not only knows you are ready he is ready to make it happen with you.

The book is filled with many photographs and instructions on how to perform certain exercises and when reading the book I felt as if I could hear his voice rising out of the pages.  I kind of felt that Bob was talking to me when he was getting into the whole Yoga and calming technique which was new to me, but I love it and it has helped me personally.

Overall it is a good comprehensive book that touches on the holistic experience of eating and working out combined with the challenges we experience as we start to lose weight and introduce exercise into our life.  It is quite evident that Bob Harper takes an interest in the contestants on The Biggest Loser and he is saddened when the players gain all of their weight back again.  The approach of the book is one that acknowledges that in order to truly lose the weight you need to learn about more than just exercise otherwise you can gain all the weight back again like Ryan did from The Biggest Loser season one. The book will be a valuable addition to any one’s library, I only wish I could find some insight to Bob Harper’s tattoos, but alas, there is little to no information available.  So if you read this Bob, there are a lot of people asking.

“Are You Ready” is an easy read and the reviews on Amazon.comrate this book really well so you don’t just have to take our word for it!
